Ryan Rowley
Director of Bands, Hoover High SchoolRyan Rowley graduated from Iowa State University in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in music education. While at Iowa State, he studied abroad at the Music Conservatory at the University of Newcastle in Newcastle, Australia and toured with the Newcastle jazz Orchestra and performed in the Novacastrian Symphony Orchestra.
Ryan began his teaching career in Highlands Ranch Colorado, while he was also pursuing an active performing career with the Colorado Jazz Workshop and various freelance ensembles. Ryan left this position to pursue his Masters of Music at the University of Northern Colorado. Earning his Master’s degree in 2002, Ryan began teaching in Aurora Public Schools where he fully developed his love for music education. While working as a band and orchestra director in Aurora, Ryan performed with the metropolitan Jazz Orchestra and was principal trombone in the Denver Philharmonic. He became the conductor and director of the Aurora Public Schools Summer Honor Band Program and the conductor of the Denver Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Since returning to Des Moines in 2007, Ryan has taught at Des Moines East High School and Dallas Center-Grimes High School. Ryan spent four years as the Performing Arts Coordinator for Des Moines Public Schools where he oversaw the music and theater arts programs for over 30,000 students. In 2016, Ryan found his current home as Band Director at Hoover High School |
